Sprout Social is a full social media management suite: publishing, a shared inbox, reporting and listening, priced per seat. If your team uses all of it, it's a good product. If you pay for Sprout mostly to see what shoppers say about your products and competitors, you're funding a suite to use one part of it — and Sprout sells listening as a separate, quote-only add-on. Mentionfront does that one job for ecommerce, with public prices.
No demo, no contract. 7-day free trial.
Suite or single job
What you're actually paying for
Teams that publish, answer inboxes and report on social from one platform, and want listening across news, forums and blogs in the same login. Larger teams with an agency or a social department.
Ecommerce brands whose Sprout bill is mostly justified by listening: tracking products, buyers and competitor complaints, with a daily queue someone can act on. Publishing stays in a tool you already like.
Sprout's seat prices are public; its Listening add-on isn't. Vendr's contract data puts the median Sprout deal at $18,980 a year. Mentionfront tops out at $2,388 a year on Scale, for 6 to 11 users.
Sprout's plan prices are from sproutsocial.com/pricing in September 2026, billed annually per seat. A seat is one person, so the total grows with your team.
| Sprout plan | Per seat / month, billed annually | Profiles | What changes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essentials | $79 ($99 month to month) | 5 | Scheduling, post and profile reporting, 100 AI credits a month |
| Standard | $199 | 5 | Shared inbox, review management, keyword and location monitoring (10 brand keywords per group) |
| Professional | $299 | Unlimited | Message tagging, competitor, tag and paid insights |
| Advanced | $399 | Unlimited | Sentiment features, Sprout API, helpdesk integrations, Message Spike Alerts |
| Enterprise | Custom | Unlimited | Onboarding, SSO, priority support |
| Listening and Premium Analytics | Individual add-ons, price not published | — | Sold by quote |
Sprout offers a 30-day free trial. Sprout shows month-to-month pricing only for Essentials on its pricing page; confirm the rest with sales.
Sprout doesn't publish a Listening price, so any number is an estimate. The best public evidence is Vendr, which publishes figures from contracts it helps negotiate: a median Sprout contract of $18,980 a year across 217 purchases, with a range from $6,281 to $55,000 (last updated February 2026). Vendr describes Listening as a separate module priced by user and topic volume. Third-party guides quote Advanced Listening from around $999 a month, but that figure is reported, not published by Sprout, so get your own quote.
Vendr's page lists older per-seat rates than Sprout's current pricing page, so use the table above for seats and Vendr only for the shape of a real contract.
A worked example
Three people on Professional is $299 × 3 × 12 = $10,764 a year, before Listening. Three on Advanced is $14,364. If two of those seats exist only to look at listening dashboards, that's the part of the bill an alternative can remove.
| Mentionfront plan | Per year, billed annually | Includes |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | $588 | 10 keywords, 1,000 mentions/month, 1 user |
| Growth | $1,188 | 25 keywords, 10,000 mentions/month, you + 5 |
| Scale | $2,388 | 50 keywords, 50,000 mentions/month, you + 10 |
| Enterprise | Custom | More keywords, multiple brands or client accounts |
Features are identical on every plan. You pay more only for keywords, mentions and teammates.
An alternative isn't right for everyone paying for Sprout. Stay if any of these describe you.
Sprout's scheduling, shared inbox and approvals are the point of the product. Mentionfront does none of that: it finds conversations, and you reply on the platform or in your existing inbox tool.
Sprout's support documentation says Listening includes news articles, forum posts and blog posts from the web. Mentionfront covers six social platforms only, and no news, blogs, podcasts or review sites.
Sprout builds shareable reports and analytics across profiles and campaigns. Mentionfront has in-app analytics but no report builder or PDF export.
Mentionfront starts from the past week when you add a keyword (past 3 days on Instagram). If you analyze trends over months, Sprout's Listening is the stronger tool.
One person on Standard at $199 a month includes keyword monitoring and a shared inbox with no add-on. If that covers your listening, keep it. The savings case is for teams with several seats plus a Listening add-on.
With many collaborators, approval workflows and enterprise SSO matter more than listening price. Sprout is built for that; Mentionfront's biggest self-serve plan is you plus 10.

Sprout's software isn't what these reviewers are upset about; the contract is. They're verbatim public Trustpilot reviews, each linking to the original.
They let us know we couldn't cancel before the end of the contract term. We accepted… But then they auto-renewed our annual contract in April.
[Sprout is] the saddest and most desperate the moment you want to cancel.
technicalities to extract payment
Trustpilot skews toward unhappy customers, and Sprout is used successfully by many teams; these reviews are not a survey. They are here because they name what a pricing page won't: how renewal and cancellation work. The first is a direct quote; the other two are short excerpts, and the linked reviews give the full context. Whichever tool you choose, get the notice period, renewal terms and Listening price in writing.
Find your renewal date and notice period on your order form before anything else. Annual contracts and auto-renewal are what most reviewers complain about, so put the date in your calendar.
Write down each topic's keywords, excluded words and the networks it covers. Export any reports or mentions you want to keep, because history can't be imported into Mentionfront.
A Sprout topic often combines brand, products and competitors in one Boolean query. In Mentionfront each term is its own keyword marked as brand, product or competitor, which is what enables per-product reporting. Upload your catalog CSV to add many products at once.
Turn long queries into a specific phrase plus exclude terms. Relevance checks on each mention do much of what Boolean rules filtered.
Point high-priority alerts at the Slack channel or email your Sprout notifications used. If you still schedule posts in Sprout, downgrade to a seat plan without Listening rather than cancelling everything.
Run both for a week
Add your top keywords to Mentionfront a week or two before your renewal date. It looks back 7 days on most platforms, so you can compare a full week from both tools before you decide what to cancel.
What you won't get
News, blog and forum coverage, PDF reports, publishing, and long history. If any is a must-have, keep Sprout's Listening or pick a broader tool such as Brand24.
Worth asking any vendor, including us.
Ask for the add-on as its own line, per year, and what happens to that price at renewal.
If it's one analyst, ask whether the other seats can drop a plan tier.
Get the date and the cancellation method in writing, since reviewers report renewals they missed.
YouTube is titles and descriptions, not comments. Ask what you see on TikTok and Instagram for your category.
Ask them to set up two of your products live, including one with a generic name, and time it.
Check last quarter's logins. If nobody publishes from Sprout, you're paying suite prices for one module.
Many teams keep a cheaper Sprout plan for publishing and inbox and run Mentionfront for listening. We sell Mentionfront, so weigh this page accordingly and check every figure against the sources below.
