The best brand monitoring tools for ecommerce brands in 2026.

Most brand monitoring lists are written for PR teams. If you run an online store, the questions are different: which product is that post about, is this person about to buy, and does that complaint need a reply today? Here are ten tools compared on real prices, what each one actually covers, and where each falls short, including ours.

Disclosure: we make Mentionfront, which is one of the ten. It's marked, and we say where others win.

What is brand monitoring, and which tool should a store pick?

Brand monitoring is tracking where and how your brand, products and competitors are mentioned online, across social media, news, blogs, forums and review sites, so you can respond to customers, catch problems early and see what people say when you aren't in the room.

For an online store whose customers talk on TikTok, Instagram and Reddit, we'd start with Mentionfront. If press, podcasts and review sites matter as much as social, choose Brand24 or Determ. On a tight budget with lots of mentions, choose Awario. To spend nothing, use Google Alerts plus F5Bot. Sprout Social, Brandwatch and Meltwater make sense only when you need the rest of what they sell.

Want to see it on your own brand first? Run a free social listening scan for one keyword across five platforms.

Every entry has a "best for" and honest cons. Mentionfront is first only because it's our page; read it with the same skepticism as the rest.

Mentionfront

From $29/mo billed annually · Trial: 7 days, no card

We make Mentionfront, so weigh this entry accordingly. It's built for one job: telling an online store which shoppers are asking about, comparing or complaining about its products. Each keyword is a brand, a product or a competitor, and every mention is labelled with sentiment, one of eight shopper intents, a topic and a 0–100 priority score with the reasons behind it.

Strengths

  • Products are first-class: import a catalog CSV and each product gets its own keyword and queue
  • Comments under matching TikTok, Instagram, Reddit and YouTube posts, where most shopper questions sit
  • Every feature on every plan; alerts to email, Slack and Discord; an MCP server for Claude and Cursor

Limits

  • Six social platforms only: no news, blogs, podcasts or review sites
  • No PDF or white-label reports, and no real-time feed (each platform is checked on a schedule)
  • No AI-search visibility tracking, and the ecommerce labels add little for B2B or service brands

Brand24

From $199/mo billed annually · Trial: 14 days, no card

The best-known all-round monitoring tool for small teams. Plans run from $199 to $599 a month billed annually, and reports export to PDF, Excel and PowerPoint on every plan. Its Enterprise tier adds AI-search visibility tracking.

Strengths

  • Very broad source coverage beyond social media
  • Unlimited users from the $299 Team plan, and white-label reports
  • The AI-search tracking few others in this list have

Limits

  • The $199 plan tracks only 3 keywords, so a brand plus a handful of products lands on the $399 Pro plan
  • Sentiment and topics are general-purpose, so it doesn't know a size complaint from a shipping delay
  • API access is a $149 add-on

Brand24 alternative for ecommerce →

Awario

From $29/mo billed annually · Trial: Free trial on Starter

The cheapest paid option here, level with Mentionfront on entry price. Starter includes 30,000 mentions a month, and Boolean search, PDF and white-label reports and API access come on every plan. Prices are shown in your local currency, so a UK visitor sees pounds.

Strengths

  • Far more mentions per dollar than anything else listed
  • Boolean search for precise queries, plus exports and reports on every plan
  • Unlimited team members on Enterprise, 10 on Pro

Limits

  • TikTok isn't listed as a source on its pricing page
  • Starter tracks 3 topics, and the analysis is general rather than built around products
  • Boolean queries take skill to tune, and noisy brand names need cleaning up

Awario alternative for ecommerce →

Determ

From €99/mo (€990 billed annually) · Trial: 5 days, no card

A media-monitoring platform with social sources added. Plans are Focus (1 topic, 1,000 mentions, €99), Expand (5 topics, 5,000, €299) and Command (10 topics, 10,000, €499), all with unlimited users, real-time updates and AI sentiment.

Strengths

  • Unlimited users on every plan
  • News coverage and social in one feed, with real-time updates
  • Sentiment and AI summaries on every plan

Limits

  • Mention caps are low: 1,000 a month on the entry plan, for one topic
  • Priced in euros, and topics add up quickly if you track products separately
  • TikTok isn't listed among its social sources

Mention

Not published (Company plan) · Trial: Ask sales

Mention stopped selling its self-serve Solo, Pro and Pro Plus plans in 2025, after Agorapulse bought it. What remains is a Company plan with no public price; third-party roundups have reported it from about $599 a month. We checked this on September 14; Mention's help center wouldn't load when we tried to re-verify it today, so confirm the details with Mention.

Strengths

  • Broad web, news and forum coverage
  • Templated reporting for stakeholders

Limits

  • No self-serve plan to try or buy
  • No published price, so you can't compare like for like until you talk to sales

Mention alternative for ecommerce →

Sprout Social

$79–$399/seat/mo billed annually · Trial: 30 days, no card

A social media management suite where listening is one add-on among several. Seat prices are public ($79 Essentials, $199 Standard, $299 Professional, $399 Advanced); the Listening add-on is available on Standard and up but has no published price.

Strengths

  • Scheduling, shared inbox, reporting and listening under one login
  • Public per-seat prices and a generous 30-day trial
  • Keyword monitoring is already in Standard, with sentiment features on Advanced

Limits

  • Full Listening is a quote-only add-on on top of per-seat pricing
  • Vendr's contract data puts the median Sprout deal at $18,980 a year
  • You pay for a publishing suite even if you only want monitoring

Sprout Social alternative for ecommerce →

Brandwatch

Quote only · Trial: Demo

An enterprise consumer intelligence platform sold through demos and annual contracts, with its own training academy. Vendr's data on 40 purchases gives a median contract of $50,000 a year, ranging from $19,542 to $81,200.

Strengths

  • Deep, research-grade analysis for insights teams
  • Built for large multi-market programs
  • Formal training and onboarding

Limits

  • No published price, and contracts typically run a year
  • Needs an analyst to get value; not something a solo marketer sets up in an afternoon
  • Far more than an online store needs to answer 'what are shoppers saying?'

Brandwatch alternative for ecommerce →

Meltwater

Quote only · Trial: Demo

A PR-first suite. Meltwater publishes no prices, offers Starter, Pro, Enterprise and Agency tiers, and bundles social listening with media monitoring, media relations, influencer marketing and AI-visibility tracking.

Strengths

  • One platform for press, social and PR reporting
  • AI-visibility tracking alongside traditional monitoring

Limits

  • Quote-only pricing
  • Its Trustpilot page shows 1.7 stars from 17 reviews, and several of them concern contract renewals (see the quotes below)
  • A PR toolkit is more than most online stores use

F5Bot

Free; paid from $9.99/mo · Trial: Free forever plan

A tiny, long-running alert service that emails you when a keyword appears on Reddit, Hacker News or Lobsters. The free plan covers the basics; Silver ($9.99 a month, 20 keywords) and Gold ($49.99, 200 keywords) add filtering, Slack and Discord alerts, and an API.

Strengths

  • Free, and quick to set up
  • Alerts by email, Slack, Discord, RSS or API
  • Well regarded by its users (see below)

Limits

  • Three sites only: no TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, X or Facebook
  • No sentiment, intent or prioritisation, so you read every hit
  • Keywords only; it won't know which product a post means

Google Alerts

Free · Trial: Free

Google's own alert service emails you when new results matching a term appear in Google Search, with options for frequency, region, language and result count. It costs nothing and takes a minute to set up.

Strengths

  • Free and maintained by Google
  • Good for blog posts, press and new web pages
  • Frequency, region and language settings

Limits

  • Limited to what Google Search surfaces, so it isn't built for comments and conversations on social platforms
  • No sentiment, priority, team workflow or history
  • Delivered by email only

I use f5bot.com, which monitors HN, Reddit, and Lobsters. (I have no connection to f5bot except being a happy user.)

Hacker News comment · kens · Nov 2025

I hope F5Bot is on this list. Been using for free for years. just works. Reached out a while back and owner is very responsive.

Hacker News comment · danvoell · Dec 2024

Personally, I’d probably be most interested in a cheaper alternative to tools like Brand24 or Mention, combined with useful automation features — especially the ability to collect data and generate reports directly from community chats…

r/CommunityManager · u/Community_Alex · Sep 2026

Worst social media monitoring tool. There are missing data, and the listening dashboard doesn't display the right sentiment results

Trustpilot review of Meltwater · Johan Jafaar · May 2025

This company said all the right things when we were in the sales cycle and then didn't actually have most of the functionality

Trustpilot review of Meltwater · Amelia Newbury · Mar 2025

Their renewal practice is built around you not paying attention to the contract. No prior notifications or anything.

Trustpilot review of Meltwater · Andrus Kiisküla · Mar 2025

A small, uneven sample. Meltwater's Trustpilot page holds only 17 reviews (1.7 stars), so treat those three as a warning about contract terms rather than a verdict on the product. Most brand-tool talk on Reddit today comes from vendors promoting their own products, which is why this wall leans on Hacker News and reviews, and why we left vendor comments out.

What an online store should actually monitor.

Whichever tool you pick, the value comes from what you tell it to watch. A store gets more from a short, deliberate list than from one broad brand-name alert.

Start with your brand name and its common misspellings, then your bestselling products by name, your founder or spokesperson if they're known, your branded hashtag, and three to five competitors. Products matter most: a complaint about one SKU is invisible in overall brand sentiment, and it's the thing you can fix. More on that in our guide to social listening for ecommerce and on product-level tracking.

Then check the tool against the two limits that decide most purchases: whether it reads comments (not just posts) on the platforms your customers use, and how many keywords you get before the price jumps.

Can you monitor your brand for free?

Partly. Google Alerts catches new web pages and press that Google indexes, and F5Bot catches Reddit, Hacker News and Lobsters. Together they cost nothing and take about ten minutes to set up, which makes them a sensible first step for a brand with a handful of mentions a week.

What the free stack can't do is read comments on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube, tell you which mentions are buyers and which are complaints, or give a team somewhere to work through them. You'll feel that gap as soon as social becomes a real channel. Most tools here also offer a trial, so a paid tool can be tested against the free baseline on your own keywords before you commit.

A fair test for any tool

Brand monitoring questions

What is brand monitoring?
Brand monitoring is tracking mentions of your brand, products and competitors across social media, news, blogs, forums and review sites. Tools collect the mentions, and better ones also label sentiment and intent so you know which need a reply.
What are the best brand monitoring tools for ecommerce?
For online stores that sell on social, Mentionfront is built for the job: it tracks products individually and labels shopper intent. Brand24 and Determ suit brands that also need news and blog coverage, and Awario suits tight budgets with high mention volumes. Sprout Social, Brandwatch and Meltwater fit teams that need a full suite or enterprise research.
Are there free brand monitoring tools?
Yes. Google Alerts is free and covers new results in Google Search, and F5Bot has a free plan that alerts you to keywords on Reddit, Hacker News and Lobsters. Neither reads comments on TikTok, Instagram or YouTube, or scores mentions by sentiment or intent.
How much do brand monitoring tools cost?
Self-serve tools range from free to about $600 a month. Mentionfront starts at $29 a month billed annually, Awario at $29, Brand24 at $199, and Determ at €99 a month. Sprout Social's seat plans run $79 to $399 a month, with Listening extra. Brandwatch and Meltwater don't publish prices, and Vendr's contract data puts Brandwatch at a median of $50,000 a year.
What's the difference between brand monitoring and social listening?
The terms overlap and many vendors use them interchangeably. Brand monitoring usually means tracking mentions of you; social listening goes further, analysing conversations for themes, intent and trends. For a store, the useful version does both: it finds the mentions and tells you what each one means.
Which tools monitor TikTok?
Mentionfront and Brand24 list TikTok as a source. Awario's pricing page lists Reddit, Instagram, X, Facebook and YouTube but not TikTok, Determ's social list doesn't include it either, and F5Bot and Google Alerts don't cover it. Check the vendor's current source list before you buy.
How often should I check my brand mentions?
Daily for high-priority items such as complaints and buying questions, weekly for trends. A tool that sorts by priority makes the daily check a few minutes; alerts to Slack or email help when something needs a same-day reply.
